Αttempt to remove Holy Trinity from Greek Constitution

Do not move an ancient boundary stone which your fathers have set.
Proverbs 22:28

by Charis Gantes

In September 2015 an atheist government took over in Greece  with a less than 34 percentage that proves over the last decades the disdain of Greek citizens towards politics in general.
The recent government advocated a better negotiation with the Big Forces that give money to Greece. However, not only did it fail to do so but made things worse due to its unwise decisions. From the very beginning it tried to remove the symbols contected to religion, tried to banish prayer at schools, remove the already existing Religion school books.
Their primary concern was also to bring to law enforcement the legalisation of gay marriage,
adoption of children by gay couples and allowing a person to define or change its sex from the age of 17.

In fact, now, towards the end of their government, they remembered her election announcement and a long-awaited longing for separation of state and church,
abolishing or modification
of the Article 3 from the constitution,
which calls the Eastern Orthodox Church as the main religion of Greece.

Many people in the hetertodox (also evangelical) community believe that the separation between State and the Church will prove to be beneficial as it can disempower the Orthodox church and lead to the evangelism of many Greek people, however it might lead to more corruption and sinful way of living.

But the essential problem of the issue is not that, but the party's demand that the former Minister of Education, Nikos Filis, lead the Constitution to leave the Holy Trinity, which is the preamble of the whole constitution and is over and above denominations.
Although in our day it has a typical but not essential character, it remains even in this form a proclamation before God and all spiritual space, that our nation belongs to Him, that we recognize Him as the supreme principle, that we want to have reason in our lives, and we ask for His protection and His guidance.

It is very important to refer to those, who for the first time introduced this dedication
to the constitution and the reasons they did, which were more than just formal.
The invocation to the Holy Trinity in the Constitution, therefore, was done due to the fact,
that our ancestors make a oath, at the beginning of the Revolution in 1821 against the Turks.
In this Holy Trinity, those who fought for our freedom, who fought, suffocated and was tortured by the Turkish tyrant, believed, sworn to gain their and our coveted freedom.
People who fought, most of whom were not politicians, rich, in any special political possition
or trained with a particular theological education, but were poor farmers with soiled trousers,
who had no particular strength, but had simple put their faith in Christ and in the Holy Trinity!

One of them was Theodoros Kolokotronis.
Look at a statement he made
during those years of revolution,
of which he was the proponent
and the basic vessel God used to take us out of the 400-year-old tyranny of the Turks:
"My uprising does not look like
either the Franks, or me, no one else.
We will raise up a homeland
where Christ's head will be, not people. "

Another was Makrigiannis:
"Homeland, hometown, you were unlucky of people to rule you!
God alone, alone the true and the righteous governor governs you and keeps you still! "(Memoirs)

Such people either played a role as moral instigators, or were direct leaders, for the adoption
of the first Constitution, which was passed at Epidaurus, at the 1822 National Assembly
entitled "Temporary Constitution of Greece". It is worth mentioning here that the solemn speech
was given by Neophytos Vampas (a Greek cleric and educator of the 19th century,
who translated the Bible into modern Greek, an endeavour that was opposed
at that time by ultraconservative circles within the Greek Orthodox Church).

Since then the invocation of the Holy Trinity has been made in every revision of the Constitution until 1975,which is the last Constitution (that is, for 153 consecutive years!)
And it is the ONLY thing left by the Constitution of 1822, the Revolution!
One would say, "Well, all right, but what is it today?"
According to official European surveys, 80% of Greeks believe in God and only 4% are atheists!
The rest is agnostic!

What is the gravity and the effects of this act of the present - not simply of the non-atheists,
but of the opposing ones - who are ruled to remove the spiritual proclamation from the Constitution?
It is not an indifferent adventure, but the eradication of the spiritual foundations of centuries and spiritual principles, which presuppose the further construction of things to be fulfilled, based on God's designs for this country, such as the wish of Kolokotroni that the head of this country will be Christ! The rulers with this act not only do not push things to go where God has appointed, but instead serve demonic démarches, with the ultimate goal of delivering the country and its citizens to the devil.

Meanwhile, the Turks are in front of the gates, and it is not unlikely that some slavery
will repeat itself, until today
(even if many do not feel it),
the Lord's hand restrains them.

What will happen after such removal and without the reaction of the citizens?
When you proclaim that you no longer want to protect God, but will you do it yourself,
through the popular sovereignty of Mr. Filis?
A popular sovereignty,
which in practice does not exist,
by the ruling rulers themselves.

Let us all pray to those who have some fear for God, this abstinence not to be done,
the Constitution to remain dedicated to the True God
and all the good will of God for this country to be fulfilled.
